How to Keep Shredded Cheese Fluffy and Clump-Free?

Shredded cheese is often used in pizza and gratin dishes. However, it’s often purchased in large packages. If you can’t finish it quickly after opening it, you can freeze it, but it often clumps up. Here’s how to freeze shredded cheese to keep it fluffy and clumping-free.

Method 1

Step 1: First, transfer the shredded cheese from its packaging to a ziplock bag and lay it flat, or pour it into a plastic container.

Step 2: Place the ziplock bag or container, along with the shredded cheese, in the freezer and freeze. After one hour, remove the ziplock bag or container. Shake vigorously to loosen the cheese (if using a ziplock bag, you can rub it while shaking). Then, return the ziplock bag or container, along with the shredded cheese, to the freezer and freeze.

Method 2

Step 1: Transfer the shredded cheese from the packaging to a ziplock bag. Add about 1 teaspoon of cornstarch for every 200g of shredded cheese.

Step 2: Shake the bag vigorously, up and down, left and right, to coat the shredded cheese with cornstarch. Place the ziplock bag and cheese flat in the freezer and freeze. When ready to use, scoop out the cheese with a spoon. This will keep the shredded cheese loose and free of lumps.
