The fragrant and salty salted egg is a favorite ingredient in many dishes. Well-known salted egg delicacies include salted egg bitter melon and golden sand tofu. Mid-Autumn Festival mooncakes and egg yolk pastries also frequently use salted egg yolks. If the salted egg you buy is pink, do not eat it.
The truth about pink salted eggs:
A cloudy egg white indicates a fresh egg. A clear, colorless egg indicates an aging egg. A pink or pearly white indicates spoilage caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa and should not be eaten.
Although Pseudomonas aeruginosa is not pathogenic to healthy individuals, it can cause suppuration in skin wounds and infections of the eyes, respiratory tract, urinary tract, and reproductive system in the elderly, children, or patients with weakened immune systems. In severe cases, it can even cause meningitis.
It is recommended to discard pink salted eggs immediately. Also, remember to wash knives, cutting boards, and other items that have come into contact with pink salted eggs. Never eat it to avoid the risk of infection.
