How to keep cherry tomatoes longer: It actually only takes one simple step.
Chicken tomatoes are actually quite different from large tomatoes. Large tomatoes are generally classified as vegetables, while cherry tomatoes are classified as fruits.
When buying cherry tomatoes at supermarkets or department stores, you usually buy a large box or bag. Therefore, to extend the shelf life of cherry tomatoes, storage method is also very important.
How to store cherry tomatoes
When storing cherry tomatoes, simply remove the stem to extend their shelf life.
The stem of a cherry tomato is rich in bacteria, and if it is stored with the stem attached, bacteria can easily grow. Therefore, removing the stem before storing will help preserve the freshness of the cherry tomatoes. After removing the stem, rinse it under running water and wipe it dry for better storage.
If you purchased them in a box, fold one or two paper towels and place them on the bottom of the box. Place another sheet of paper towel on top of the tomatoes. Close the box and refrigerate. The paper towels will absorb moisture and help preserve the tomatoes’ freshness. If they become damp, replace them with new ones.
If they were bagged, we recommend transferring them to a crisper or other suitable container and following the box storage instructions above.
