Canned sardines, readily available in supermarkets and other places, are not only rich in vitamins and minerals, but also contain cardiovascular-protective omega-3 fatty acids, making them a highly nutritious fish. Sardines are also available in a variety of flavors, including water-soaked, oil-soaked, lemon-flavored, and tomato-flavored. But what are some delicious ways to enjoy canned sardines?
Eat Sardines straight away or make a salad
If you’ve purchased canned sardines that have been seasoned, such as oil-soaked, salt-soaked, or tomato-flavored, they’re perfect for eating right out of the can. They’re also convenient for taking with you camping and can be enjoyed right out of the can.
Sardines can also be made into a salad. First, pour the canned sardines onto a plate and toss with your favorite seasonings, such as black pepper, mayonnaise, or chili sauce, or add onions or other ingredients to create a delicious salad.
Add to salad or make a salad dressing: Sardines Recipe
Simply chop canned sardines into small pieces or crumble them, add them to the salad along with the dressing, and toss briefly. Alternatively, you can make a salad dressing out of sardines. Here’s how.
Ingredients:
1 garlic clove (minced)
2-3 canned sardines soaked in water
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 1/4 cups shredded Parmesan cheese
3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1/4 cup olive oil
Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions:
Combine the minced garlic and sardines in a bowl. Using a fork, mash the sardines while mixing with the garlic until they become a paste.
Add the remaining ingredients to the bowl and toss everything together. Pour the sardine salad dressing over the lettuce salad.
Use on Pasta and Pizza
Sardines pair well with pasta, so we can mix canned sardines into a variety of pasta dishes, including tomato sauce, pesto, white sauce, and garlic sauce. See the recipe below for detailed instructions.
Alternatively, we can simply place canned sardines on a pizza crust along with other toppings and bake the pizza in the oven.
Serve with Toast, Baguette, or Soda Crackers
If you prefer toast or baguettes, try spreading butter on the toast or sliced baguettes, then toasting them in the oven or until crispy, then transferring them to a plate.
Place the sardines directly from the can onto the toasted toast or baguette and enjoy. For a more indulgent dish, you can also top it with cheese, sliced hard-boiled eggs, and ham. For a quick snack, cut canned sardines into small pieces and place them on crackers for an easy and delicious party snack.
