Hummus Recipes

Chickpeas have been a common sight on superfood lists in recent years. These nutrient-dense chickpeas are rich in protein and fiber. Studies have also shown that chickpeas can help control appetite, making them a popular ingredient in weight-loss diets. Today, we’ll share seven common hummus recipes.

Mediterranean Hummus, Yogurt, and Chicken Salad

Ingredients:

1/4 cup hummus
1/4 cup Greek yogurt
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 shallot (chopped)
2 chicken breasts (diced)
1/4 cup feta cheese (crushed)
1 tomato (diced)
Several small romaine lettuce leaves

Instructions:

Divide the lettuce leaves onto a large plate.

Combine the hummus and yogurt in a large bowl and toss until combined. Add the lemon juice and toss. Add the shallots, chicken breast, feta cheese, and tomatoes to a large bowl and toss with the ingredients from step 1. Spoon the mixture onto the lettuce leaves and you’re done!

Beef Hummus Burger Patties

Ingredients:

Olive oil (as needed)
1/2 red onion (chopped)
450g ground beef
1/2 cup hummus
2 tablespoons basil (chopped)

Instructions:

Pour a little olive oil into a pan and sauté the red onion until softened.

Place the ground beef, hummus, and basil in a large bowl and add the red onion from step 1.

Toss all ingredients in the bowl until combined. Form into several burger patties and pan-fry or grill until cooked through.

Sesame Hummus Pasta

Ingredients:

1/4 cup hummus
1/4 cup chicken broth
2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
2 tablespoons soy sauce
230g pasta
1 tablespoon sesame oil
A pinch of chopped green onions
A pinch of white sesame seeds

Instructions:

In a large bowl, combine the hummus, chicken broth, red wine vinegar, and soy sauce and mix well.

Cook the pasta and transfer it to a plate. Add the sauce from step 1 and the sesame oil and toss well.

Sprinkle the green onions and white sesame seeds over the pasta and enjoy!

Creamy Hummus Spicy Sauce

Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups hummus
2 tablespoons butter (melted)
2 tablespoons pine nuts
A pinch of chili flakes
25ml lemon


Instructions:

Preheat oven to 200°C/390°F. Spoon the hummus onto a baking sheet, top with melted butter, and sprinkle with pine nuts and chili flakes.
Toast the hummus in the oven for 15 minutes, or until the melted butter has been absorbed by the hummus. Pour the lemon juice over the hummus and toss to coat.
Spread the toasted hummus on bread or use it as a dip.

Besides being a dip or spread, hummus can also be enjoyed as a dish.

Greek-Style Hummus Pita Pizza

Ingredients:

4 pita bread slices
Olive oil to taste
8 tablespoons hummus
1/2 cucumber (chopped)
1/2 tomato (diced)
1/4 cup black olives (seeded and chopped)
1/4 red onion (chopped)
1 cup baby arugula
2 tablespoons lemon juice
3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
A pinch of salt and black pepper
Crumbled feta cheese to taste

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 200°C/320°F.

Brush pita bread with olive oil and bake for 5 minutes, or until crispy.

Spread 2 tablespoons of hummus on each pita bread slice. In a large bowl, combine cucumber, tomato, black olives, red onion, arugula, lemon juice, and olive oil. Season with salt and black pepper.

Place the pizza topping from step 4 on a pita bread and sprinkle with feta cheese. You’re done!
