Shredded Cheese Recipes

Whether you buy ready-made shredded cheese at the supermarket or grate a whole block of cheese yourself, you might end up with more than you can use. To avoid wasting shredded cheese when it expires, you can use it in a variety of recipes. Besides the familiar sprinkling of shredded cheese on pizza, there are many other culinary uses, which we’ll introduce today.

Cheese Toast and Cheese Bread

Cheese toast and cheese bread are similar to pizza. Simply sprinkle shredded cheese on toast, sliced French bread, or other suitable bread, and toss with your favorite condiments like ketchup, pepper, and salt.

For a more versatile dish, you can also add sliced hard-boiled eggs, diced hot dogs, or other ingredients to the toast or bread and toast them with the cheese.

Shredded Cheese + Salad

Shredded cheese is also delicious when sprinkled on salad. Although there’s usually not much cheese on a salad, it still adds a subtle salty and creamy flavor. In fact, there are salads that always include cheese, such as the famous Caesar salad.

Traditionally, in addition to croutons and Caesar dressing, white Parmesan cheese is also added. When making your own salad, you can use not only Parmesan cheese but also shredded Cheddar cheese, or a combination of the two.

Shredded Cheese + Scrambled Eggs or Omelette

When making scrambled eggs, if you want to add cheese, you can add it to the pan when the eggs are almost done, or sprinkle it on top after serving, but adding it to the pan will make it melt more easily.

For omelettes, place the cheese and other ingredients of your choice between the eggs when they’re half-set. Finally, roll up the eggs and ingredients to form an omelette. See the recipe below.

Shredded Cheese + Risotto or Pasta

When making homemade risotto or pasta, sprinkling shredded cheese on it not only adds a creamy flavor but also thickens the sauce and makes it richer. The best time to sprinkle cheese on risotto or pasta is at the very end of the cooking process, after the noodles or rice are cooked through and before serving. Add the cheese and wait for it to melt slightly before serving.

However, some people prefer to sprinkle smaller pieces of cheese on top right before serving, tossing the dish with the noodles or rice before serving.

Shredded Cheese + Soup

Adding shredded cheese to soups like pumpkin and potato soup not only enhances the flavor of the main ingredients but also adds a richer texture. Traditional French onion soup is also known for sprinkling cheese on sliced French bread, allowing the cheese to melt slightly before serving.

Shredded Cheese Dip

You can make homemade cheese dips with either block or grated cheese, or shredded cheese. Here’s how to make a spicy cheese dip.

Ingredients:

1 cup heavy cream
1/2 to 1 teaspoon chili powder (adjust to your preferred spiciness)
1/2 cup shredded cheese
Salt to taste

Instructions:

Place heavy cream in a small pot over medium-high heat, but do not bring to a boil.

Add chili powder and shredded cheese to the pot and cook, stirring occasionally. Again, do not bring to a boil.

Once the cheese is melted, turn off the heat and remove the pot from the stove. Taste the sauce to see if it needs more salt. Finally, serve with tortilla chips, chips, or other food.
