Okra Storage Method

Extending Okra’s Shelf Life

Okra is a delicious ingredient, but its shelf life is relatively short. It’s often sold in large boxes, so it quickly turns gray and dull, losing its freshness and flavor.

Today, I’ll share a simple okra storage method that can extend okra’s shelf life from about a week to a month.

Okra Storage Method

  1. Wash the okra and dry it with paper towels.
  2. Sprinkle a little salt on the okra and carefully rub the hairs.
  3. Place the okra in a sealed bag and arrange them evenly.
  4. Freeze directly in the freezer. When ready to cook, remove as much as needed.

After adding the extra step of rubbing the okra with salt, blanch the frozen okra in boiling water for about two minutes. The color will remain vibrant green.
