Angbu men want to enter the city gate
Since ancient times, people from all over Teochew have acknowledged that people from Teochew City are the most mature and sophisticated.
Unexpectedly, in this story, the three gatekeepers of the city were deceived by a man from Anbu Town.
In ancient times, on a rainy night, a man from Anbu came knocking on the south gate of the city with a heavy load, asking the guards to open the gate and let him in.
Three alert city guards replied from the city gate: “It’s not 寅时 (3-5 am in Chinese) yet, it’s not dawn yet, why open the city gate? No! You can sleep until dawn and knock on the door!”
One person plays three roles
The Anbu man was anxious to get into the city, so he thought of a clever plan and pretended to be three people:
One voice said: “It’s cold and raining, the ground is wet, where should we sleep?”
Another voice said: “Think of a way! You have a shoulder pole, let’s sleep on it together!”
One another voice echoed: “Yes, since the three of us can wear the same pair of pants, why can’t we sleep on the same shoulder pole?”
The first voice said again: “Well, just make do for a while!”
“Okay! Okay!” The other two voices responded one after another.
After “sleeping”, “they” argued again:
“Can you sleep better? Don’t squeeze me,”
“I don’t have enough space to sleep!”
“I almost fell off the ‘bed’!”
“Okay, okay, let’s make way for each other!”
Then, someone “snored”.
The three city guards found it very strange and fresh. After discussing, they agreed to open the city gate to see how “they” slept. As soon as the city gate opened, the Anbu man rushed into the city like an arrow, carrying his load. From then on, this proverb was formed.
