How to Store Glutinous Rice Peppers?

How to refrigerate and freeze to store glutinous rice peppers? Freezing preserves their flavor and aroma.

Glutinous rice peppers, while not overly spicy, are fragrant and crispy. They’re also rich in capsaicin, which helps boost metabolism. Regarding how to refrigerate or freeze glutinous rice peppers before cooking, I personally recommend freezing them directly. Why?

Freezing Glutinous Rice Peppers

  • First, if there’s a hard stem at the top of the glutinous rice pepper, remove it (don’t remove the stem).
  • Next, wash the glutinous rice peppers and dry them thoroughly with paper towels.
  • Finally, place the glutinous rice peppers in a freezer-safe ziplock bag. Expel as much air as possible, seal the bag, and refrigerate. They will keep for about a month.

Freezing glutinous rice peppers directly in the refrigerator is the recommended method, as this preserves their flavor and aroma.

To use frozen glutinous rice peppers, thaw them at room temperature for about a minute. Then, cut them into pieces as desired. If you’re cooking the whole pepper, it’s recommended to make a few small cuts on the sides to prevent them from bursting when heated.

How to Refrigerate Glutinous Rice Peppers

  • First, if the pepper still has a hard stem at the top, remove it (leave the stem intact).
  • Next, line the bottom of the original packaging with paper towels and place the glutinous rice peppers inside. Completely cover the peppers with paper towels, close the box lid, and place them in a plastic bag and tie them securely.

※If you don’t have the original packaging, you can place them in your own plastic bag (you don’t need a separate plastic bag if you use a plastic bag). If you don’t have a plastic bag, wrap the peppers in paper towels, then place them in a plastic bag and tie the bag securely.

Finally, refrigerate the peppers in the fruit and vegetable compartment. They will keep for about a week.
