How should mangoes be refrigerated or frozen? Partially thawed mangoes are incredibly delicious!
Mangoes, while sweet and sour, are not meant to be stored for long periods of time, as they can overripen and spoil easily. So how can mangoes be stored to extend their freshness?
How to Refrigerate Mangoes
If the mangoes are not yet fully ripe, store them at room temperature. Keep them out of direct sunlight. For fully ripe mangoes, follow the steps below to refrigerate them.
- Step 1: Wrap the mangoes with dry paper towels. Then, wet your hands and touch the paper towels to slightly dampen them.
- Step 2: If the mangoes came with a net, wrap the mangoes and paper towels in the net. Place them in a plastic bag. Expel as much air as possible, seal the bag, and refrigerate. They will stay fresh for about 5 days.
How to Freeze Mangoes
Mangoes that cannot be eaten in a short period of time can be frozen. The steps are as follows.
- Step 1: Wash the mangoes, peel them, and cut them into pieces. Then, divide the mangoes into several portions. Wrap the mangoes snugly in freezer-safe plastic wrap or a small plastic bag.
- Step 2: Place all wrapped mangoes in a freezer-safe ziplock bag. Remove as much air as possible from the bag, seal the bag, and store in the freezer. They will stay fresh for about a month.
To enjoy frozen mangoes, it’s recommended to remove them from the refrigerator and let them sit at room temperature for about an hour and a half. Let them partially thaw before serving. Partially thawed mangoes are incredibly delicious!
