How to store jam: Freezing

If you have bottled jam, don’t freeze it directly in the freezer. The contents of the bottle may expand when frozen, causing the bottle to crack.

Step 1: Divide the jelly into small portions according to the amount you’ll need. Wrap each portion in freezer-safe plastic wrap or plastic wrap, or place them in mini-sized containers.

Step 2: Place all the wrapped jelly into a ziplock bag. Remove as much air as possible, seal the bag, and then freeze it. If you’re storing it in a mini-sized container, simply cover it with the lid and freeze it.

When frozen according to the above steps, jam with a sugar content of 40% or higher can be stored for up to 6 months.

Thawing Frozen Jam

The reason for initially freezing the jam in small portions is because jam has a high sugar content. This prevents it from hardening while frozen and allows it to be thawed and used immediately at room temperature after being removed from the freezer.

However, it is not recommended to refreeze any uneaten frozen jam after it has been thawed. This will degrade the flavor of the jam. Therefore, it is recommended to store it in small portions and use as needed.

*Jam with a very low sugar content may harden after freezing. When thawing, transfer it to the refrigerator to defrost.
