Persimmons can be stored in the refrigerator or frozen. Using a single paper towel can significantly extend their shelf life. Frozen persimmons, when slightly thawed, have a unique texture, similar to sorbet in ice cream!
Persimmon Storage: Refrigerate
Instructions
Step 1: Fold a paper towel into a square slightly smaller than the persimmon. Each persimmon will require a separate paper towel.
Step 2: Wet the folded paper towel thoroughly (but not dripping wet). Place the paper towel over the stem of the persimmon.
Step 3: Wrap the persimmons and the paper towel in freezer-safe plastic wrap or a small plastic bag.
Step 4: Place the wrapped persimmons in a ziplock bag, expel as much air as possible, and seal the bag.
Step 5: Refrigerate the persimmons, but store them upside down (stem and paper towel facing down). They will keep for about 3 weeks.
Persimmon Storage: Freeze
Instructions
Step 1: Wash the persimmons and pat them dry with paper towels. Wrap them in freezer-safe plastic wrap or a small plastic bag.
Step 2: Place the persimmons in a freezer-safe ziplock bag. Remove as much air as possible from the bag, seal the bag, and freeze. They will keep for about 2 months.
Recommended Ways to Enjoy Frozen Persimmons
Thaw the frozen persimmons at room temperature for about 15 minutes. Use a knife to cut off the tops of the persimmons. Let them thaw for another 30-60 minutes (depending on how soft you want them). Then, use a spoon to scoop out the flesh. It will taste like a smoothie.
