Cherry Recipes and Precautions

Cherry Recipes and Precautions

Cherries are rich in vitamin C, potassium, and dietary fiber. Vitamin C helps support the immune system and keeps the skin healthy. Besides eating them plain, cherries can also be used in a variety of recipes.

Cherry Jam Recipe

Once you’ve removed the seeds from the cherries, you can use them in two ways to make a variety of delicious jams:

The first method is to blend the cherries, either alone or with other ingredients, in an electric blender or food processor. For example, you can blend seeded cherries with orange juice to create a sauce that can be enjoyed with American muffins, cheesecake, steak, and other dishes. However, if your cherry jam requires ingredients like sugar that must be melted, blending it directly in a blender is not recommended.

Instead, we recommend the second method: simmer the cherries and sugar in a pot until the cherries are softened and the sugar is dissolved, resulting in a jam-like consistency. See the recipe below for instructions.

We’ll also teach you how to make a cherry barbecue sauce.

Ingredients:

1 onion (chopped)
2 tablespoons butter
2 garlic cloves (minced)
2 cups cherries (seeded and chopped)
1 cup ketchup
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons mustard
1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions:

  • Put butter in a saucepan and heat until melted. Add the onion and sauté until softened.
  • Add the garlic cloves to the pan and sauté for 1 minute.
  • Add all other ingredients to the pot and simmer over medium-low heat for 20 minutes. Remember to stir the sauce occasionally to prevent it from burning.

Roasted Cherries Recipe

Roasted cherries are actually quite versatile. They can be used as a side dish for dishes like steak and pork chops, or mixed into salads. The recipe is also very simple. See the instructions below.

Ingredients:

Cherries, as needed

Instructions:

  • Preheat the oven to 220°C/420°F.
  • Place the cherries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 15-20 minutes, until slightly juicy and caramelized.
  • Remove the cherries from the oven and serve with other dishes.

Cherry Desserts

When using cherries in desserts, they can be baked or unbaked. If the cake itself does not need to be baked, the cherries can also be left unbaked.

Simply add the cherries to the cake or spread them on top. However, if the cake itself needs to be baked, the cherries mixed into the dough should also be baked with the dough. Unless the cherries are simply to be spread on the top of the cake, they do not need to be baked.

Pickled Cherries

Pickled cherries are usually candied, but a little wine can be added for a more adult flavor. They only need to be pickled for 30 minutes and do not require cooking.

Do not overeat cherries.

There have been news reports of people experiencing bloody stools and severe diarrhea after eating too many cherries. Doctors diagnosed the bloody stools as “pseudo-bloody stools” caused by cherry pigment, while the diarrhea was caused by acute gastroenteritis, which the patient had consumed over 6 kilograms of cherries over 5 days.

All foods should be consumed in moderation, and doctors recommend not consuming more than 20 cherries at a time. Cherries are also a perishable fruit, so care should be taken to ensure their freshness and storage to avoid microbial contamination.

Other nutritionists recommend avoiding tea or coffee when consuming cherries, as these can affect the absorption of the iron in cherries. Furthermore, since 10 to 12 cherries contain approximately 75 calories, overconsumption should be avoided to avoid consuming excessive calories.
