How can you steam frozen baozi without a rice cooker? Steaming in a pot makes them fluffy and soft.
Steaming refrigerated or frozen baozi in a rice cooker is convenient and delicious. While you can also microwave them, steaming them not only creates a fluffier and softer texture, but they also keep them delicious even when they’re cold!
But what if you don’t have a rice cooker? You can use a regular pot, as described below.
How to steam refrigerated or frozen baozi in a pot
If you don’t have a rice cooker or steamer, you can use a soup pot or deep frying pan to steam delicious baozi.
Tools
- Soup pot or deep frying pan
- One heatproof bowl and one heatproof plate (any one suitable for a rice cooker will work)
- One clean cloth
Instructions
- Step 1: Place the heatproof bowl upside down on the bottom of the pot. Then, add about 3cm of water to the pot’s height. The amount of water should be the same, regardless of how many baozi you’re steaming at a time.
- Step 2: Place the buns on a heatproof plate, then place the plate on top of a heatproof bowl.
- Step 3: Cover the pot with a clean cloth and then the lid (covering the pot with a cloth will prevent water from dripping onto the buns or steamed buns during cooking). Bring the water to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat to medium.
- Step 4: Steam refrigerated buns over medium heat for about 10 minutes. For frozen buns, it’s recommended to steam for about 15-20 minutes (please adjust the time based on the size of the buns and the current cooking conditions).
Now, enjoy your steaming buns!
