Restore Crispness to Nori

How to Restore Crispness to Nori?

How can you restore crispness to nori when it’s softened by moisture? Here are three methods.

Nori, with its crispy texture, is a popular snack. It’s also used in many culinary applications, such as in sushi rolls, torn into small pieces and sprinkled on rice or salad, and even delicious in soups like egg drop soup and miso soup. When we need nori to retain its crispness, but moisture has softened it, how can we restore its crispness?

How can we restore crispness to softened nori?

Method 1: Frying Pan

Heat a frying pan over medium-high heat and dry-fry the softened nori.

Flip it occasionally while frying. Once the nori is crispy, remove it from the heat.

Oven-restored nori will be easy to tear apart.

Method 2: Oven

If you’re using a small oven without a variable temperature setting, preheat it directly. If you’re using a variable temperature oven, preheat it to 180°C/380°F. Toast the softened nori directly on a wire rack or baking sheet in the oven.

Turning the nori in the oven every 10 seconds, turn it over until crispy.

Method 3: Microwave

Place the nori on a microwave-safe plate and microwave at 500W for 30 seconds.

Take out the nori and check its crispness. If it’s not crispy enough, microwave it for another 10 seconds. Continue in 10-second increments until crispy.
