Many people who visit Japanese BBQ restaurants are captivated by the delicious salt and pepper green onions.
I myself am one of them. As I get older, I can’t eat too much of the strong-flavored marinades or dipping sauces anymore. Instead, I can’t stop eating simple salt or sliced meat with some pickles or other side dishes.
Today, I’m sharing a recipe for salt and pepper green onions that I often make at home, just like the ones from Japanese BBQ restaurants. It’s very simple to make; it only takes a few minutes in the microwave. If you have a microwave, you can also stir-fry all the ingredients in a frying pan—simple and quick.
Besides eating it with sliced meat, it can also be used to mix with noodles or served with rice. It’s versatile and incredibly delicious, so let it make its appearance at your BBQ this Mid-Autumn Festival!
The ingredients are just chopped green onions, sesame oil, and salt and pepper. The sesame oil should be about 1/3 the amount of chopped green onions. Adjust the amount of salt and pepper to your liking, and you can also add some bonito flakes to taste.
Place all ingredients in a large bowl, cover with microwave-safe heat-resistant plastic wrap, and microwave at 500W for 2 minutes. Remove and stir with a spoon.
Microwave time can be adjusted depending on the amount of chopped scallions and the microwave power. Besides scallions, adding some onions makes a delicious salt and pepper scallion dish too!
